Roof Needing Repair

Your roof protects your home. It is very important to inspect your roof on a regular basis. Detecting problems early and getting them repaired will save you significantly in the long run. As soon as you see a problem or a potential problem, contact us, for an evaluation.

Clean Gutters

Maintain the gutters and downspouts so that they are free of debris and able to drain precipitation quickly and efficiently from the roof.

Leaks

If a leak occurs, try to detect the exact location; this will greatly simplify locating the area that requires repair when the roof is dry. Take pictures if possible.

Limit Walking

Limit walking on your roof. The weight and movement can loosen the roofing material and break the integrity of the roofing material, which can, in turn, result in leaks. Never attempt to walk on the roof of your home when the shingles are wet–they are extremely slippery.

Severe Weather

After severe storms, do a visual inspection of the roof for damages. Notify your homeowner insurance company if damage is noted. Even when properly installed, wind driven rain may enter through vents. This is not a defect.

Here are a few things to look for when you are inspecting your roof:

  •  Blistered, curled or split shingles
  •  Loose or missing shingles or tiles
  •  Exposed nails or popped  (can lead to leaks in the roof)
  •  Dark patches on asphalt shingles and/or large amounts of granules in the rain gutters
  •  Sagging either on the ridges or in the center of the roof
  •  Broken or loose shingles at the ridge lines and hip lines
  •  Rusty or corroded metal and loose shingles in the valleys, plumbing vents or near chimneys
  •  Loose shingles in locations where a vertical side of the house meets the roof
  •  For flat roofs, look for blisters or cracks, depressions near vent pipes, separations in flashing, and clogged drains

SideOne Exteriors will come and inspect your roof.  If you think that a problem may be starting or you have a leak, call us right away at 435-559-6033.
